Mike Kuster and The Catoctin Cowboys Bring the Honky Tonk to Halloween

What a night in Frostburg!

On Thursday, October 22, Mike Kuster and The Catoctin Cowboys hit the stage at Frostburg State University for Rock The Vote, a free concert celebrating music, community, and civic engagement. We shared the bill with Emo band Be Safe Band and Baltimore reggae favorites Strykers Posse for a night that brought together three very different musical worlds.

A big thank-you to Savage Mountain Punk Arts, Frostburg State University, and the Beall Institute for Public Policy for making it happen. It was great to be part of an event that brought people together through live music, and we had a blast bringing some country sounds to the mountains of Western Maryland!

The King of the Honky Tonk Takes Frostburg

One of the highlights of the night was getting to perform “King of the Honky Tonk” with The Catoctin Cowboys. If you haven’t seen us live yet, here’s your chance to get a taste of what we do onstage.

Whether we’re playing a brewery, a festival, a college campus, or a good old-fashioned honky-tonk, our mission is the same: bring real country music to the people and give them a reason to sing along.

Thanks to everyone who came out to Frostburg, watched us play, and helped make the night a success. We’re looking forward to bringing The Catoctin Cowboys to more stages in the months ahead!

Looking for Something Spooky This Halloween? I’ve Got You Covered.

Now that we’ve had our fill of live country music, it’s time to turn our attention to Halloween!

If you’re putting together your Halloween party playlist, heading out for a spooky drive, decorating the house, or just looking for something a little different from the usual Halloween soundtrack, check out my Halloween-themed EP, Mountain Monsters of Maryland.

As a songwriter rooted in Frederick County, Maryland, I’ve always loved the stories, legends, and local folklore that make this part of the country unique. Around here, you don’t have to look far to find a good monster story — and some of them are downright strange!

On Mountain Monsters of Maryland, I put a musical spin on some of the creatures and creepy tales lurking around our neck of the woods.

We’re talking about the Dwayoo, the legendary Snallygaster, a certain infamous witch in the Burkittsville area, a mysterious black beast said to haunt U.S. Route 15, and those Shiners up on Catoctin Mountain.

These are the kinds of stories that make Maryland folklore so much fun, and I had a blast bringing them to life through music. It’s a little country, a little creepy, and entirely inspired by the legends that have been passed around these mountains for generations.

You might know me for songs about life, love, heartbreak, and the everyday characters who make up the world of country music. But sometimes a songwriter has to wander off the beaten path and explore the darker side of the back roads!
