I grew up in 4-H and FFA in Frederick County, Maryland. My children also grew up in 4-H. I worked as a 4-H Agent , also. So, The Great Frederick Fair has always been a big part of my life.
Growing up and dreaming of writing and singing Country Music, one of my dreams was to perform on that big Grandstand stage at The Great Frederick Fair. I had watched some of my heroes like Randy Travis, George Jones, Tanya Tucker, Ricky Skaggs, Charlie Pride, and Charlie Daniels (to name just a few), play on that stage. Every once in a while, I even got to meet them back stage.
A week before this year’s fair, one of the Fair Board Members heard my band and I rehearsing and asked us to play before the Tractor Pull. He wanted us to play my song, “Every Night’s a Party at The Great Frederick Fair”, just before the event began. He offered to have us play to the audience as they entered and until the Tractor Pull began. There were over 2000 tickets sold and a lot of complimentary tickets handed out!
I can’t thank Joe Devilbiss and Fair Manager, Karen Nicklas, enough for making my little dream come true! Here’s some footage my daughter took from the Grandstand!
