I’m dropping a new song, “Corn Fed”, and it is already getting lots of attention. I hope you’ll buy it, stream it, and request it at Country radio! “Corn Fed” debuted at Number 7 on Europe’s HotDisc Top 40 this week.

Stewart Fenwick was kind enough to debut the song on Celtic Country Radio in Scotland this week. You can listen to Stewart’s show right here:

“Corn Fed” comes from a real moment in my life. When I was young, my parents decided to buy a farm — which sounds great until you realize we couldn’t afford anything nearby. So they packed us into the station wagon and moved us out to Frederick County, Maryland. At the time, Frederick was still a pretty small town, and to my young mind, it felt like we’d crossed into a whole different country.

As I stared out the window taking it all in, my dad casually dropped a line that I’d never forget: “Boy, you’re gonna love growing up here in the country — these girls are corn fed.”
I had no idea what that meant at the time, but I knew it sounded important. For whatever reason, that line stuck with me — and it’s still good for a laugh all these years later.

About a year ago, I retold that story to my wife and one of my sons. My wife laughed and said, “You should write a song called ‘Corn Fed’,” quickly adding that it might be a terrible idea. Naturally, I took that as a challenge. I figured if I was careful, I could write a song that celebrates the world I grew up in — full of women (and men) who are strong, hardworking, love deeply, and aren’t afraid of a little dirt under their boots.

So “Corn Fed” is my lighthearted tip of the hat to country life, family roots, and my dad’s offhand comment that somehow turned into a song years later.
